Hello -- I installed GB-PVR few days ago. It runs just fine with my Hauppage 150 card. However, I have *big* problems when I enter the timeshift mode. I understand that ^Q is used to toggle the pause mode, ^K to start recording, ^R to rewind, ^F to forward, ^O to catch up (I assume that it means exiting timeshift mode). On my PC, playing with these keys always end up in "confusing" GB-PVR: it will never really rewind, it becomes really slow, when it goes forward, it goes very fast and there is no way to stop it, and I eventually get a C# null reference error message, which brings me back to the main menu. Please note that when it seems "frozen", the CPU is generally running at less that 25%. First, I would like to know if anyone has a detailed guide on how to use this timeshift feature, in case I just do not know how to use it... Then, can someone please give me some hints on what I could be doing wrong? Maybe an installation/configuration issue? Many thanks to all. Jacques

FF/RW are generally a bit crap. Most people tend use skip forward / skip back instead.

Not to downplay the problem, but I don't know if ,uch can be said about using Timeshift. It's really much the same as have detail about the same buttons on a VCR. You can really only say so much about how when you press FF, it moves the recording forward.

It could be you don't have enough processing power or memory to handle the shift (I get that kind of perfomance using the same buttons in media player w/ mpegs on slow machines). It can also be you have the wrong codecs installed.

Does Canada use PAL or NTSC? That could be an issue if it is the former, and your set up for the latter.

TS is really just the same as watching a file. You just happen to be watching a file that is only a second or so old. That is how you can pause, RW, etc. If you can do the functions to a recording you can't do to TS, then maybe your Live recording settings are too high.

Thanks all for the info.

1) What is the difference between FF/RW and skip forward / skip back ? What keyboard keys are used to trigger these functions? Are these functions made mutually exclusive through the use of the "Use short skip instead of FF/RW" in the "Misc" configuation tab?

2) What is the meaning of "Deinterlacing : encoder pass-through, deinterlace filter, ffdshow raw video filer" ?

3) My PC is rather fast, has a lot of memory, and is idle most of the time, including where frozen in GB-PVR...

4) Canada is NTSC, we are not part of Europe (yet)

I will try the option "Use short skip instead of FF/RW" to see if it helps...

Merci!

Good place for remote settings, info, et al:
http://www.bladerhq.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php

1) I think it is meant to work like traditional FF/RW
2) If you are using TS, don't worry about them. For live, they remove the lines that make up TV for a smoother pix
3) Try a different decoder if it keeps acting up (intervideo is good, nividia is as well, and there are many others recommended here).
4) Everything is pretty NTSC-skewed, so you're ok there

Do that...it will probably solve most your issues.

Hey, thanks everyone, it works just perfectly. The option "Use short skip instead of FF/RW" made it work A-1. So my combinaison of Hauppauge 150, GB-PVR, a little IR receiver I bought on eBay last week and the Girder software seems like a dream. It makes Hauppauge's own software and IR Blaster look very primitive...

Making a donation for this project seems very justified. Out of curiosity, how much do people contribute in general?

I wouldn't want to put a price on what sub does, but a good range is between what commercial software would cost, and what you can afford. If the former and the latter are the same, it would make him very happy I'm sure Smile
