Hiya, quick question about timing of transcoding.

I have my install set up to transcode the recordings to MP4. I left it on the default setting of CPU Encoder. It tends to start the encodings immediately after the recordings are completed, but that often conflicts with when I still want to use the computer, and its stuck at like 97% CPU usage because of multiple instances of FFMEG running.

Was wondering if I can set the time for transcoding? Did not see that in settings.
Or might it be better to use another option to transcode, like NVIDIA (b/c I have an NVIDIA gfx card)

Any help appreciated!

You should probably try the nvidia encoding. It'll likely put a lot less stress on your CPU, and have it converted quicker.

Alternatively, you could just leave the files in their native format unless you really need them converted.

Just an update (belated) for anyone else who has questions about transcoding/CPU usage.

I switched from CPU to GPU (NVIDIA) and it is working out much better for me. CPU usage dropped massively and GPU usage is not noticeable really during transcoding.

cheers,

Necroing my own thread (!) to advise NOT to do what I did. I thought switching from CPU to GPU (NVIDIA) transcoding would work out fine, and it seemed to really help my CPU loads...because as it turns out it not transcoding! #facepalm

NextPVR *WAS* recording and I verified that...but when it came to transcoding via the GPU (NVIDIA) it took the .ts files it had and tuend them into 0K .mp4s. So. I lost TONS of recordings, dang it.

I also noticed that eventually it just stopped trying to transcode entirely, and I ended up with just the .ts files and no .mp4s, either transcoded or failed. *sigh*

Have gone back to CPU trancoding to see if that still works.

Make sure you don't have NextPVR auto transcoding and post processing enabled. Also turn off timing generation in config.xml if you use mp4

Just to follow-up: I changed back to CPU transcoding and it was fine. Three recordings made, all properly transcoded to .mp4. I just didn't use the computer further till it was done.

Hiya! You said" turn off timing generation in config.xml". I searched the config.xml file and didn't see a line with "timing generation".

Can you please give me the exact command I am to look for? Thanks!

Not sure why it is hard to find

<GenerateTiming>true</GenerateTiming>

To turn off both values in config.xml  https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid584756
