Greetings one and all.  This is my first post.  Many thanks for the great product and the support that is provided.

Setup is W10 with a USB TV stick (which has been stable for years).

I've been away travelling and don't log in everyday, which is why it took me a while to notice the first issue - Missed/Failed recording.  On initial investigation I noticed that the EPG was blank, then I couldn't watch a channel. Upon inspection and various tests the TV Stick needed to be disconnected and reconnected.  Even Disabling/Enabling via the Device manager didn't work.  I also took the opportunity to upgrade from 5...??? to Version: 7.0.1.241229  {I hadn't upgraded on the premise that if is isn't broke don't fix it.} NextPVR is my 'backup' device for when my stand-alone PVR is 'too busy' or I am away and can't programme it.

Upgrade appeared to work but now I can't access BBC channels (1,2, 101,102,106 & 107. 107 sometimes works), to watch live.  Error on BBC channels is Streaming Failed (transcoder exited) The other channels that I have tested work.  I haven't checked ALL of them (far too many). {I can watch the BBC channels using VLC}.

Having rebooted, applied latest W10 patches I re-scanned channels & updated EPG.  All seemed fine (apart from BBC channels which I can live without).  So I set a recording for last night, having watched live TV on that channel.  This morning I notice that the recording failed [Failed: No errors, but no data delivered. This is usually because the device failed to lock a signal.] but I have just been able to watch live TV on the channel.

I'm stumped and welcome your expert advice and support.  Thanks in advance.

Latest logs uploaded but I also have some older ones that I made during my investigations if required. [BatchProcessing.log is activated so that I could 'split, re-encode/shrink & upload' a rugby match while I was away travelling.]

There is certainly indication in the logs that no data is being received right from the start

2025-05-21 18:58:31.843 [DEBUG][36] Reached end of in-progress recording. Dropping connection.
2025-05-21 18:58:31.872 [DEBUG][36] Sent total of 0 bytes
2025-05-21 18:58:31.878 [DEBUG][22] timing closed

but the signal seems strong, perhaps too strong if you are using an amplifier.

2025-05-21 18:58:01.992 [DEBUG][8] locked=1, present=1, strength=100, quality=100 (took 156ms to check)

Not much to go one here.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I've carried on testing and can only report that "it is very unpredictable".

One test recording on the same channel worked and watching live TV is hit or miss as to whether the stream will load or fail.

I still don't understand why the BBC channels are always failing - and yet work in VLC.  Is there a more detailed debug logging level ?

I may try an older (non-HD) stick...

Thanks

If BBC always fails, and you have rescanned, maybe use sub's tscapture program https://tscapture.com/ and capture a one minute full mux of the frequency and send a link to it, we could see what the quality is.

Otherwise I can't help, sub might need to look at the logs to see if BDA is normal since aforum search for AVStream TS did show others with drive issues.

Often when it says strength=100, quality=100 it's telling that the manufacturer is just using hard coded values in their drivers. (or rather the reference driver from the chipset manufacturer was using hard coded values).

I'm not sure it'll tell us much more, but after trying to stream a channel, there should be an ffmpeg log file in C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\web\temp\

I think with this

2025-05-21 18:58:31.872 [DEBUG][36] Sent total of 0 bytes

the ffmpeg logs won't help.

Yeah.

Is T:\ a local drive? If not, is it managing to write there?

It recorded to it from ITV4

Code:
"recordings": [
  {
    "id": 2639,
    "duration": 4319,
    "status": "ready",
    "size": 1307525712,
    "file": "T:\\NextPVR-Recording\\World Superbike Highlights\\World Superbike Highlights_20250520_20002100.ts",

but it could be hit or miss. Live TV to C: for BBC should not be drive related.

T: is local to the C: that NextPVR is installed on. (i.e. NOT a networked drive)

Attached are 2 logs from C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\web\temp\
 1x successful & 1xunsuccessful.

Just a thought: is my ffmpeg the latest version having upgraded from 5... to 7...

Steve
PS I will try TSCapture next week.
