These things are so cheap, I'm going to buy another, however, the only model available is listed as "for MCE only".
I think this is a false claim, as the MCE model should be able to work with gbpvr in regular XP pro, it's just a matter of what drivers to get, correct?

Problem: I want to get a retail version with the remote, but can't find any in Canada!
Anyone have a link, or maybe a spare 500 they want to sell?
You can never have enough tuners!

Hey Reboot... there's no such thing as a "retail" WinTV PVR 500, it only comes in the "MCE" flavor. The "for MCE only" is a false claim or rather an oversimplification/mistatement.

It certainly can and does work in regular XP and with other 3rd party PVR software (including gbpvr) in addition to being certified (hence the MCE) to be used with Windows MCE 2005 edition...

I'm not even sure which drivers are important (it's important to MCE which is stringent/picky... not so much to gbpvr as long as the pvr500 is setup properly -- you can always get the drivers at SHSpvr's site Big Grin ).

So yeah, if it's a good price go for it!

Thanks!
OK, but no remote Sad
This brings me to my next question...
I've been hearing good things about the Theatrix cards. Considering getting one of these as well.
In your (meaning eveyone that reads this) opinion, would it be worth my time, or am I simply looking for more headaches?

I also have been researching remotes, and it seems the sapphire one sucks.
I may go for this one instead:

Are you looking for a remote for a dual tuner, or looking to change cards for better performance?

If it's the latter, you may want to start a new topic with that question.

But since you're asking, I've read that the increased timing for channel changing on the new ATI based cards is a show stopper for a lot of channel surfers. It certainly puts me off.

I'm looking to upgrade, a lot, and need at least 3 recording sources, preferrably 4, thus the 500 and the Theatrix. I may in the future, get a Fusion to go along with them.
Not worried about channel changing so much, as the Theatrix won't be the primary recording source, just for the odd show, and as something different.
I just wondered if it was worth getting one, considering they're almost half the price of a 500 and still 50% cheaper than a 250, yet their recording quality is supposedly excellent.
If they're just a headache to get working properly, I won't bother, and just get two 500's instead, and tag on a firefly remote or similar later.
