OK, I'm getting a tad confused, and I suspect it's all a problem at my end. However, I figure I can't be the ONLY one having this issue, so figured I'd put it out here for those who know to correct me. FWIW, I'm running GB-PVR 0.92.11 on XP 2 Home on a machine with a PVR-350, 512 megs of RAM and a P4 2.93 GhZ.

The recording service is setup as a service, and comes up when the box comes up. I then had been starting up first the GBPVR-MVP server, and then GBPVR itself. Task manager shows this as two instances of GBPVR, but things run pretty well for about 24 hours. After about 24 hours, something causes "System" to start running at close to 100% CPU. I thought this might be the EPG update, but since it doesn't seem to ever stop, I doubt that's it.

So, I tried running GBPVR first, and then the GBPVR-MVP server. Sure enough, after 48 hours no problem. However, now when I hit the green button on my remote to get GBPVR back into focus, it gives the focus to the GBPVR-MVP server. Which means I have to go over to the PC and click to get the focus, then move back to where the TV is.

Does anyone know what might be going on that's causing the system task to jump up? Should it matter whether I run GBPVR or GBPVR-MVP first? Any idea what I'm doing wrong or misinterpreting?

TIA,
Ewan

No idea what's causing your problem, but a couple of things to try until someone who does have a clue replies!

1. Set the number of MVPs to autostart to 1 (or how many you have) in the config app. Saves you starting the MVP server yourself.

2. Check the properties of the GBPVR recording service. Make sure that interact with the desktop is not checked. This will prevent the pesky MVP server window appearing.

Logged into the home machine and changed the autostart to 1, but didn't notice the MVP server task window showing up anywhere. Since I can't see whether the MVP is getting "served" or not, I'll have to wait until I get home to see if that is working or not. If it is working, then I suspect that starting things that way is "different" and may be part of my problem.

As for the "Interact with Desktop", I'm afraid I couldn't find that option anywhere. Is it called something else and I'm just being dense?

Thanks again,
Ewan

Well if all is well, you shouldn't see the MVP server task window anymore!

I'm home now, so can give a few more details:

Start->Run->Services.msc
Double-click on GB-PVR Recording Service\
Click the "Log On" tab.
There you'll find the "Allow service to interact with desktop" box.

Got home, and while the config did save the autostart option, the MediaMVP is not seeing any servers. I'll try rebooting next to see if that makes any difference.

FWIW, per another thread, I have set the logging level to Info, but that didn't seem to help. Then again, perhaps I needed to reboot for that as well.

Well, I'm running out of ideas. I did set the autostart option, and with a reboot the system does indeed start the first GBPVR process for the MediaMVP. I still start GBPVR by hand for the main session, and still have the ~24 hour problem. I have turned off my Screen Saver thinking that might have been the problem, and still no luck.

The only odd thing I notice is that the first GBPVR process is owned by System, while the hand started one is owned by yours truly.

I'm wondering if the problem is that I don't have GBPVR setup to autostart when the machine comes up.

The reason I'm thinking it's me rather than GBPVR is that I tried moving the card and the software to another WinXP machine, and had the same problem. Which would seem to imply that:

A) This is a known problem with GBPVR that folks just don't consider to be much of a problem. In fact, shutting down GBPVR and then starting it back up DOES "solve" the problem - it's just inconvienent to have to do that every day or so

or

B) This is an unknown problem with some interaction between GBPVR and the latest version of the PVR350 drivers

or

C) Something incredibly dumb I'm doing either in setting up or running GBPVR

I'm not using any plugins, have turned off the Net Radio option, and otherwise am using GBPVR just as a menu front-end for TV or playing Videos or Music. IOW, I haven't scheduled any recordings.

Any other ideas? Any logs I should be looking for and sending in?

Run that and see if your problem goes away

I'm probably dense, but are you telling me to start a SECOND MediaMVP Server instance to fix the problem? Or were you thinking I was complaining about not seeing the server instance?
