how about somthing that will show me all the sci-fi shows or all drama with the option to setup a record schedule to just grab shows listed as "drama" between 10pm and 12am etc ...

In most parts of the world I have no genre information available. I try to avoid adding functionality that would only work for a small subset of users. I leave this type of thing to plugin developers.

hmm didnt know that .. thought it was standard in zap2it for all regions ( hence the differnt colors on their web interface ) ..

but i wasnt saying just for the core program .. a plugin would be fine

When you say all regions, would that be all regions of the USA??

heh acctully i was thinking all as in uk, au , etc .. i figure a documenrty is a documenrty no matter the lang or country , but it seems the "powers that be" dont aggree with me

What I meant above was I thought zap2it was a service only available for the US (and maybe Canada). The majority of EPG data for the rest of the world is from XMLTV which doesn't always carry program genres, which is why Sub hasn't implemented this feature.
