So, I'm watching live TV and at the 1/2 hour the whole computer just freezes up. It happened tonight at just before 10:30 and then again just before 11.

It looks like the problem is event code 14 and a "renewlease" entry.

Any Ideas?

Are you using a PVR350, with TV out?

there are some issues with the 350 and the tv out.

a lot of people (inlcuding myself) had spontaneous lock ups during live tv (or when exiting, etc.)
most of them own a via-chipset board (although, my board has an intel chipset)

i was able to bring the lockups to a minimum by using the newest driver provided by shspvr (ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr_250-350/inf/)

btw: since i have a second tv tuner (pvr 150), 0 (in words: zero) lock ups occured.

I will try updating the drivers as you suggested. Looks like the newest one on that site is from Nov 2004.

When I installed, I updated the drivers using the instructions on the Hauppage website and it gave me a driver version different than the one it said would be there. Also, When I looked in device mngr the date on the new driver was older than the one that came with the card. I rolled back to the drivers that came with my card. Don't know the current version here at work.

I do have a VIA chipset - Ugh

The fact that it happened exactly on the 1/2 hour makes me think that it could have something to do with the guide updating.

Sorry to be the bearer, but yes there is some issues like this for some PVR350 users. Much of this devices problems seem to relate to the drivers.

Unfortunately, I've long since stopping looking at this issue. It was becoming a huge waste of my time, for things mostly out of my control.

Can I have a pvr150 and a pvr350 and have both cards use the TV out on the 350? Is this the setup you have that results in no lockups?

about the driver stuff: i can't tell something about that... i updated the drivers when i had to reinstall windows. meaning i directly installed the drivers from the link i gave you.
the only 'official' stuff from hauppauge i installed on my tv compy is the irremote-stuff.

wongojack Wrote:Can I have a pvr150 and a pvr350 and have both cards use the TV out on the 350? Is this the setup you have that results in no lockups?

yes. i can watch live tv with the 150 and see it on the tv out of the 350 (of course it also works while the 350 is recording another show). no lock ups so far Smile

the 150 is capture device #1 (it's in the 1st pci slot), the 350 capture device #2 (in the 3d or 4th pci slot).

maybe i do not have lock ups anymore just because gbpvr seems to choose the cards 'wisely':
for live tv, pvr 150 is allways used (if it is not recording something).
for recording, the pvr 350 is allways used.

the 150 is only used for recording, when i record two shows at a time...
and to force live tv using the 350, i have to record two shows (so both cards are busy), cancel the one which is recording using the 350 and start live tv.

meaning: the 350 is allmost never used for live-tv ... and since the lockups only occured during live tv on the 350 which now is unlikely to happen --> no more lock ups.
of course, this is just a speculation. but... hey... i do not really care anymore why it works now... it works. thats important Big Grin

some people reported that they can't get the 45 button remote which coms with the 150 (non MCE version) to work... but in my case, i did not even had to do something special - the new remote on the 150 works without problems.

Sub, I realize this is completely irrelevant to this thread but I wanted to share my experience with GB-PVR and a PVR-350 in any case.

I too experienced this exact same problem on a P3 1ghz box with 512 megs of ram. It'd freeze on channel change, etc. I tried as many tweaks as I could find on your forum here with no luck, and chalked it up to the dreaded PVR-350 issue.

Determined, I decided to switch to a new box that I had just ordered for a completely different purpose just to test it. It was an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1 gig of ram. Well, no lock ups whatsoever but on playback I got a funky error that dropped me back to the menu all the time (irrelevant because it wasn't going to be the permanent machine anyway).

Lastly, I had a junky emachine 1 ghz celeron with 256 megs of ram. I put the same PVR-350 card in, installed the same drivers I tried on the first two boxes, and now it has been running without incident on a crappy, proprietary, non-scaleable box. It helps that the 350 does the heavy lifting for the PC because otherwise I don't think it'd make it.

All of this leads me to believe that maybe it has something to do with the chip set of the box, the bios, or maybe even the CPU and how it talks to the PVR-350.

Go figure. I love the application and will have to do my best to not overwork this little machine.

Thanks for your hard work.

Well, adding a PVR-150 is an interesting idea. It wouldn't be that expensive and would add the coolness of a 2nd tuner.

Hmm . . .

I think I'm going to think about that. I also have some other machines that I could assemble and try the whole configuration.

I'll post if I find anything interesting.

I'm about to install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers from the VIA website. Anyone know if that will help?
