Xcard beyond 256 colors

I just found this post on the internet (TVedia):

A patent pending OSD engine overcomes Xcard's 256 color OSD restriction to display images with a full range of colors, so user interface is as vibrant as displayed on a 32 bit colored PC display.

Any idea if this would be possible on the GBPVR side?

The hardware is limited to 256 colours. They've just found a good fast way of doing a good dither to 256. To see how good 256 colours can look, try using the using the 'best colors' option. Yes, I know its too slow to really be useable, but it gives you an indication.

This isnt really a high priority for me, so I cant spend the sort of time that would be required to find a similar highspeed algorithm. That said, if someone else comes up with one, email it over and I'll see if I can integrate it.

Be forewarned though, this is not a simple task....
