You're confusing transmitter MUXs with actual channels. A MUX (multiplex) in digital terrestrial telly terms, is effectively a transmitter that uses one UHF carrier frequency to carry multiple digital channels. All MUXes (6 at the moment in the UK) transmit something 24/7 (as far as I know). Some channels on a given MUX, on the other hand, are only broadcast at certain times of the day.

Well... I tried scanning again last night, having changed no settings. I picked up more channels this time, but not all of them (I got BBC1&2 and a lot of radio and music channels, but no ITVs or Channel 4). It looks like I should re-scan every day until it finds them all!
