I've done some searching with limited success (see this thread for what I found), and what I want to do is this:

Use an old laptop with TV-out remotely on my LAN to interface to the GBPVR running a Hauppauge PVR250 on a faster box elsewhere. There - that's it. The post I found above mentions this config in passing, but I'm not seeing any documentation to that effect anywhere else.

Is it possible to totally control GBPVR from elsewhere on the LAN, like my MediaMVP does? Or do I just use the laptop interfacing with the HTML interface?

Thx,
Dave

I have had success with this using the thread above. It works well but has issues. If the client has problems connecting to the database I can cause your database to be erased. You really need to back up the database daily or after each recording to be safe. It also requires a full install of GBPVR on each machine you run as a client. Each machine needs to be configured on its own, but it should be able to interface with the server, and pull live tv, music, recorded tv, and currently recording TV. You might run into issues if your using different user accounts on each PC your best bet is to create one common user account with the same login and password on each client and the server. This has been suggested in several threads for use with the MVP and I think it makes life easier for a networked client as well.

At one point I created two batch files to change my config.xml on one of the clients to run the unit as a "remote" or "stand alone" So it would not connect to the gbpvr.mdb I'm not sure I would suggest this method becuase you need to write two different config.xml files and it can get confusing which is which. If you want to switch GBPVR from a Client to standalone I might suggest copying the GBPVR folder and to a second folder and configur and run it seperately.
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None
