Sub,
Trying to play an FM Radio station via MVP I got the message "Failed to communicate with the Recording Service".
Prior to the crash I had been channel surfing in LiveTV via the MVP. Then I stopped and tried to play the radio station, still via MVP, with the error cited above. After getting the error, I ran GBVR on my PC and tried to play the FM Radio station, which was successful.
Excerpts of GBVR.exe.log and GBVRRecordingService.exe.log are attached in a zip file.

Many thanks for your support and all the work you do on the product.

Cheers .... Bob

You've got the LAME encoder from http://www.elecard.com/ftp/pub/directsho..._dshow.zip installed right?

Sub,
Ummm, errrr, no.
The problem is that I read one of your past postings that read: "If the 'scan' button is visible, then you dont need the lame encoder. You'll notice the 'scan' is not present when accessing via the MVP."
I took this to mean: ... if the 'scan' button is present in gbpvr on the PC (which it was) then you don't need the lame encoder. And, by the way you'll notice that the 'scan' button is never present when accessing via the MVP. (Which it wasn't.) I see now that's apparently not how you meant it.
But not having installed the lame encoder, I WAS able to successfully play FM radio on both the PC and on the MVP. So this confirmed to me that my interpretation was correct.
And then a couple days later this error I reported in this thread occurred.
So I'll install the lame encoder now, but does it make sense that I was able to play FM radio on the MVP without it's having been installed?

If the 'scan' button is present then you dont need the lame encoder. If the 'scan' isnt present, then you need to the lame encoder. Inline with this, the 'scan' button isnt visible on the MVP, meaning you need the lame encoder.

You absolutely wouldnt have been able to play FM radio on the MVP without the lame encoder.

[But I WAS able to play FM radio. Perhaps sometime in the past, before I started playing with gbpvr, something else might have installed a lame encoder.?.?]

In any case, I just installed the lame encoder. [in a DOS/CMD window, with path set to the directory into which I unzipped lame.ax, I did
regsvr32 lame.ax . It said it was successful.

I still don't have a 'scan' button via the MVP.

And, I just got another 'Failed to communicate with the Recording Service'.
In this case, after I installed the lame encoder I restarted the Recording Service, restarted the MediaMVPServer, went to FM Radio on the MVP (but didn't play select a station to play), returned to the main menu, attempted to go to LiveTV, and got the 'Failed to communicate ...' message.

So if lame was a problem (not sure it was, because I definitely could play FM Radio before), it didn't resolve this error. So maybe the excerpts of the logs that I sent you at the top of this post are relevant.

??

Thanks .... Bob

No, you'll never get a scan button on the MVP. You'll only get this on the PC.

Zip your logs and post them, then I'll take a look. The key ones are gbpvr.exe.log, gbpvr.exe-native.log, gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log and gbpvrrecordingservice.exe-native.log.

Sub,
The logs are in a zip file attached to the first post of this thread. gbpvr.exe.log and gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log both showed errors and are in the zip. Both the ...native.log files didn't seem to have anything noteworthy and they're now gone.
Thanks.
