I Just purchased one of these MVP's at Radioshack (on sale) and I love it...!! However, I have a question for someone who is more knowledgable than myself.

I'm (obviously) using GbPVR as my MVP server software... Well, when I click on "live TV" (using the MVP on my television), I'm able to view live TV without any difficulties. However, when I look in my recordings directory, I'm floored to see that GbPVR has recorded every single second of my live TV viewing -- regardless of the fact I didn't tell it to record it...

How do I turn this option off??? I really only want it to record those shows which I intend for it to record, not the "live" TV option.

Thanks!!

The MVP is only designed to play video files. GB-PVR tricks it let you watch live tv, by recording files for each show and playing them as they're still recording. These files are automatically deleted a few minutes after you finish watching them.

There is no option to turn this off.

Ahhh... I see.. That explains why the option exists for GbPVR but not for the Huappauge software. As far as it "automatically" deleting; that doesn't seem to happen to my system. The files remain until manually remove them.

Thanks for the quick response!!

I gotta quick question for ya.... Is it possible to load the MPV service as a "windows service" instead of the application being run in the background?

It's "Fantastic" by the way!! I absolutely love it.... Smile

Just set the 'number of servers to autostart' setting to '1' in the config app.

Yep, I did that and it works well. However, it's still not running as a windows 'service'.. It's running as an application -- and my alt-tab function still displays it as I do other functions on the computer.

The advantages of running as a service are many (as well as you know), and that's why I was asking if there is someway I can load this executable as a service instead.

Thanks again!!

It is running as a service. It is a sub process of the GB-PVR Recording Service, and provides all the benefits you normally get from a service, including run while no user is logged in etc.

Is there a particular advantage that you dont think you get running this way?

Ahhh.. I didn't think -- because it's not actually running as a 'windows service' that it would run unless someone is logged into the computer.

I often use "alt-tab" to switch between applications, and the MPV application shows up in the alt-tab window in the center of the computer. Occasionally, I make the mistake of alt-tab'in into it and then I have to restart it to hide it again.

However, I see why you didn't make it a service option. For those who run more than one MPV need more than one instance of this application running, and making it a hidden application makes it run in the background in as many instance as you need -- and on the 'fly' too.

Thanks Smile

I'm new to GB-PVR and the Media MVP, Shannon, and I had the same questions you did. But, I think I might have a small clarification for you. That window that comes up with a black background, which says "This process acts as a server..." can be closed, withOUT actually stopping the Service. The Media MVP Server Service is actually part of the GB-PVR Recording Service. Even after you close it, you'll still be able to reopen it with alt-tab, however. And that little window also shows up when I log in, even though I know I can use the MVP through my TV before I log in... I think of it more as a notification than the actual service.

As for the mpegs in your Live TV Directory, I was also surprised by them, and they didn't seem to be auto-deleted. After at least one reboot (if this was the fix or not) it they seemed to start disappearing by themselves, and they are no longer a problem.

Hope all this helps.

Hi Jim and thanks for the post. I've pretty much come to the same conclusions. It's a great program!! I really like what he's done with it -- and -- in my opinion -- it's superior to what Hauppauge has created!! It's just a matter of me getting used to the nuances of the application Smile

Cheers!
