I have WinXP Home, Hauppaug 250PVR, and Dishnetwork Receiver Model 2800.
The PC has a Pentium 4, 2.8GHz, 60G HD, 512M ram. I've installed GBPVR, but I want it to automatically change the channels on my Sat receiver. Will USB-UIRT be the best choice? Is there a less expensive choice for the IR Blaster? Please let me know of any real or potential problems, before I buy a blaster.

I bought a blaster at irblaster.info. I thought I would get it to work with winlirc. Never did. I have yet to try with girder, but I don't have much hope for that. That said, I ordered the standard blaster. The owner of the site (he really has done a lot to try to help me getting it to function) told me that he has some blasters especially made for windows (the one I got was for linux). Problem is that he thought that mine shouldn't work at all, but I have an ir detector, and that one clearly indicates that the blaster is sending *something*. Oh, I did another test. I set up one computer with the blaster, and one with a receiver. I then asked the receiver to learn the codes that I tried to send from the blaster. It did learn it. Almost perfectly. It just won't work with my cable box. Can't figure out why, though, because others have gotten it to work with the same box.

Oh, well... In a few months I'm moving to a place without cable. And a few months after that "they" are shutting down analogue terrestrial, and I will have to get a digital terrestrial box. Then I will *have* to get a working blaster somehow...
I'm not always right
