Hi, I hope somebody can help me. Am trying to automatically activate hibernation in Windows XP SP2. I know it is supported, since my board is ACPI compliant. I have setup all the Power Options correctly, set hibernation to 15 minutes, but the system will not hibernate. Hibernation works if I activate it manually either through the START button or through the SHUTDOWN plug-in from the MVP. I have check all my services, I have even tried to disable other services, but still to no avail. I don't know what to do next. I can't find what is preventing Windows from hibernating automatically.

Hope somebody can help. Thanks

With all due respect, it is unlikely this is GBPVR related, you might get a quicker/better answer in the General discussion forum?

Could I suggest you try:

I have had this problem intermittently, and still do from time to time. I have no idea why it stops hibernating, but I have found out that there are a few things that seems to make it better. Not all work every time, but all of them have worked at at least one time :-)
1) Force my computer into hibernation manually, after that it will hibernate automatically again (you seem to already have tried this with less than good result, but perhaps it works for someone else reading this post)
2) Connect and reconnect with your remote desktop software from another computer (if you use any such software) (I use VNC/tightVNC).
3) Reboot your switch/firewall (don't ask... I did this once because of another issue I had with another computer not getting an ip address... and voila! 15 minutes later my pvr hibernated after being on for hours...)
4) Unplug the network cable

Most of these "solutions" have been network related, so my advice is you do one of them (perhaps nr 4 first), set your hibernation time to 5 minutes (or something small, so you don't have to wait all day to test it :-)) and see if it helps. If it does, then plug in the network cable again, and concentrate on finding something network related that could be the source of your problem... Perhaps you have something on your LAN that talks to your PVR, making it not wanna hibernate.

There is one thing in gbpvr that can prevent your system from hibernating (I think), and that is if you have the screen saver enabled.

Thank you all for the responses, I will try them all when I have more time this coming weekend and will update with the results. Cross my fingers, hopes this works.
