I *am* going to start using NPVR at some point - honest - but in the meantime, what combinations of MPEG2 decoder and DVD Navigator do people have working with GBPVR and Windows 7 (either EVR or VMR9)? And does it work with both discs and rips?

I've had no luck with anything yet. DVDs are playing fine, but I can't get highlighting to work in the menus. You can still navigate around them with some guesswork, but it'll drive the wife crazy.

Hi.
Remember, you should not mess DxVA 2.0 OS with DxVA 1.0 renderer - this will kill DxVA for H.264/VC-1. This mean you need to use EVR renderer on Vista/Win7 and VMR9 on WinXP.
I am not sure if GB-PVR EVR renderer support subpicture pin (needed for highlighted buttons in DxVA mode)...
But if you want to try SAF5 (link below) you should have working DVD playback with hightlighted buttons of unprotected DVDs undependent on used OS - some DVD's need to have some kind of "on thy fly" DVD decrypter installed - like AnyDVD.
BTW - if you want to rip DVD to disk, it is better to rip it as a folder (not ISO), There is no need to mount anything and playback have instant start.

It does, but with the MS decoder it doesn't really matter, as you can use VMR9 and still get GPU-assisted deinterlacing, and that's what really makes the difference.

That would suggest it should work with a software decoder and no DXVA but I couldn't get it running with anything I tried.

Yep, AnyDVD HD is in play all the time, and I was using VIDEO_TS folders. I'll give SAF another go, but I think I tried it with ffdshow, but the logs showed that the graph contained both it and the MS decoder, and I think it must have been the latter that always got used, because no ffdshow icon appeared in the tray.

God I hate directshow. You explicitly tell it to use something and it just goes away and does its own bloody thing instead.

That is as it should looks like: (yelow is the same as highlighted buttons)

FFDshow (SAF5) outputing MPEG-2 as NV12, so deinterlacing is done by HW if your GPU support it.

Using Windows 7 64-bit and EVR, and the DVD menus work on rips and discs using DVD Navigator and PP video decoder (Cyberlink Power Producer). The software was bundled with a LG blue-ray drive, and the bundled software alone was worth the money spent on the hardware - I use the PDVD decoders for all video in GBPVR, and have made some good DVD's with animated video menus using Power Producer.

i'm also using that decoder, but mine actually came with cyberlink mediashow.. [yous may have too,it comes with PowerProducer]
works great without needing anydvd...
but so should ffdshow..[it decrypts dvd also] but you must check the dvd decrypt box on codec..
but ffdshow doesn't seem to want to connect in win7...
msdecoder works great but doesn't show highlight..
only cyberlink works fully for me..regardless of renderer..

I found Pob's message from ages ago that mentioned PP, and I've got the LG drive too, so gave PP a go, but it still didn't work.

Ooh, could be that. I don't recall ticking it (I've seen it in the past but probably forgot this time).

Which version? I tried 7 and 10 with no luck. Also nVidia with its own navigator (which always worked great in XP).

Thanks guys. Nice to know it does work with a bit of luck though. I'm determined to get to the bottom of it, although it might also be a good way of moving from GBPVR if we start using NPVR for playing DVDs (where everything just worked fine).

@imilne:

My SAF5 didn't work for you?
There is no need to configure anything, it should work just after SAF is installed.
You can try to play DVD directly from MPC-HC (installed by SAF) to see if it is working or not.

It was the missed tick box. Sigh. All working now.

As for SAF, I don't think I tried it to be honest. I'm juggling three different test systems, over two different sets of hardware and I'm starting to lose track of what's installed where Big Grin
I'm pretty sure it would have worked though, seeing as "normal" ffdshow behaved itself in the end

Thanks again for all your help.
