Hi, The last few weeks i've been in the process of putting together my own htpc. I've spend a few weeks on these boards looking for answers and new ideas. I really love how gbpvr works compared to the competition.
I managed to get this far on my own, but now i feel i need some help.

The topic title says it all i think, whenever a camera pans you see a u stutter in the movement, and the picture gets blurred. I tested with a few codecs today when a footballmatch was on. (Intervideo, nero, cyberlink, nvidia, elecard dscaler5 etc.)The best results i got were with dscaler5 (bit blurry) and nvidia.Same with recordings and on monitor and tv.
Nvidia is great for 10 seconds, then it goes to jerky video mode and back to great quality ? and on and on and on.
Dscaler4 produces very watchable smooth panning video.

Setup:
Amd 2600
768 mb DDR
Radeon 9600 pro (omega drivers) normal 16:9 connected to tvout
160GB seagate barracuda
Win xp pro + sp2

Gbpvr settings:
VMR9
encoder pass through

Someone any idea what i could try ?

This is classic symptoms of lack of timing synchronisation between the source (TV-card in your case), audio/video decoder, and renderers.

First you need to ensure you have the directx 9b quartz.dll installed because the latest directx9c has a known timing problem with its quartz.dll (search this forum for the directx 9b quartz.dll file). In order to obtain best benefit from this fix, you need to ensure you are using the default MEG2 Splitter/Demux (not other 3rd party ones like Moonlight mpeg2 demux). You can check this using a utility called GSpot (google search on Internet).

Secondly, the audio/video decoders don't work correctly on their own. Take for instance the Intervideo decoders, the WinDVD application applies a whole lot of registery settings to make the decoders work correctly. GBPVR simply uses these decoders without applying the required registry settings, therefore timing problems occur.

The required Intervideo decoder registry tweaks can be found at thread:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=9082
That thread contains my own registry recommendations and also another persons recommendations. You are welcome to try either recommendations or both in combination. The important registry setting for timing is "DsContinuousRate" applied to both the audio and video registry keys.

Another point to note is that if you specify a decoder in GBPVR, that does not guarentee that it will be used, but instead is a preference only. An example being if you are using the Moonlight mpeg2 demux, then the Intervideo video decoder is not compatable with that demux and will never be used irrespective of GBPVR settings. Again this can be proved by using GSpot.

Well that's my 2cents worth, I hope it is of help to you.

Thanks for your reply,

I already had the 9.0b quartz.dll installed.
With gspot it first told me it used the elecard mpeg2 codec, after i uninstalled that one it uses the ligos mpeg2 codec. where do i chose the preferred demuxer ?
Is it the same as the mpeg2 decoder ? I set my preffered mpeg2 decoder to the intervideo one (from windvd7) in the MS DECC utility.
With your registry settings from the other thread livetv is now watchable, but not perfect Wink

The demux filter splits the mpeg2 stream in separate audio and video streams which then feed into the audio and video decoder filters, and finally to the render filters which format the data onto the sound and video cards.

The quartz.dll actually contains 5 filters (and possibly others?) called:
MPEG-2 Demultipler
Overlay Mixer
Video Render
Video Mixing Render 9
Default Directsound Render

You need to make sue your default filters contain the MPEG-2 Demultiplexer, one of the above video renders, and the Default Directsound Render, and of course the audio and video decoder of your choice.

Download and install Radlight Filter Manager (if you haven't already got it), and lower the "merit" of unwanted demux and codec/decoder filters to "unlikely" or "do not use", then reboot PC, and recheck the default demux and decoders using gspot.

The MS DECC sets the decoder as the default "preferred", but again this does not guarentee that it will be used.

You can double-check what default demux and decoders are being used by using Graphedit and select menu: File>Render Media File. This will display what is actually being used for the default demux and decoders.

Once you have the default demux and decoders set correctly, then set gbpvr to "system default" for the decoders and render in the playback tab (and DVD tab if you wish).
