I looked at the Firefly remote posted above - I like the idea of an RF remote & I think I've got a software DVD decoder laying around somewhere...

Thanks to all who responded. I'll order my remote and 500 later today.

Don't you also need some device to receive the remote control's ir transmissions?

The firefly uses RF (2.8ghz), not IR, and is a great choice with the PVR-500.
You can never have enough tuners!

Ah... so it comes with a receiver, then? Cool, I didn't know that :-) Only downside is I guess it can't control the tv/receiver/dvd player/etc... so I would still need another remote... I'll stick to my Philips universal remote for now =)

Yeah, you still need 2 remotes. One for all the hardware outside the PVR, and one for the PVR.
My dvd player IS the PVR, and I usually only use the other remote for actually turning the TV on and off, otherwise it never get's used.
