I have played around with a few video decoders:

MainConcept, Nero, and Cyberlink, but with those I get a diagonal line while I'm watching during fast movie scenes - sports for example. I'm using a PVR-150, and Radeon 9200

Also - what is the best setup for my harddrive. I have two hard drives - one 120 gb w/ XP, and one 40 gb w/ Linux that I will remove if it's better to record onto a second drive.

Try increasing the bitrate (edit the Medium setting in config).
Try the Intervideo non-css decoder, free from hauppauge.com

I would put XP on the 40 gig, and leave the 120 for recordings.
Then buy another 250gig for all the extra stuff you want to keep

You coul try switching to Overlay instead of VMR. Some people systems seem prone to 'tearing' with VMR.
