My appologies if this is already available.

I came to GBPVR after giving MythTV a try. One thing that Myth had that I really liked was a separate executable that allowed you to display messages in the TV stream as it was displaying. It was fairly powerful as I could create daemons that would pop up messages as I was watching TV. For example, I had a simple calendar running, and would get message popups reminding me that I'm supposed to be heading to a meeting, etc. As another example, someone in the developer thread is writing a plugin for sports scores and would like to popup score updates on the LiveTV stream as its going.

Is there a way to do this now?

Yes, you can create a plugin that implements the IMenuTask interface, and also the IVideoPlugin interface. Next add your plugin to config.xml somewhere in the <VideoPluginX> nodes.

No your inteface will regularly have IVideoPlugin.needsToBeShown() called. If you return true, you plugin will be activated, and you can use Render() to draw to the screen.
