After formatting Windows and slowly configuring everything, I think I've found the problem! But it's a horrible situation and a catch-22 situation...
Changing the quartz.dll to the 9.0b version to fix the weird playback problems is what causes timeshifting to take forever!
I found this out because everything was fine before changing the quartz.dll, except for that weird playback stuff. So then I changed the quartz, and then the timeshifting problem came back. Now I've restored the regular quartz, and timeshifting works correctly.
So basically, we're stuck
I remember reading about some hotfix from Microsoft about quartz.dll, I'll try that next.
But this much is certain: quartz.dll is the EVIL demon that haunts PVRing...
EDIT: I've tried all of the 9.0b versions. seems like as soon as I replace the quartz.dll with *anything* else, the timeshifting problem comes back. i'll try that microsoft thing and report back
