I have two cards--PVR 150 and PVR USB2. The PVR USB2, no matter what I record things at, it always seems to capture at bitrate 9000. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem and/or know how to change the bitrate, cause i'm trying under GBPVR, and it's not working.

I also recorded using wintv2000 and when I checked the properties of the file, it was also at 9000. So somewhere, it's just stuck at 9000.

OK, I updated the driver and it fixed it... PS, I tried to figure out how to delete this post, and couldn't figure out.

The default forum permissions dont allow people to delete posts. Its also worth leaving these sorts of posts here for future reference - someone may come up with the same problem in the future.

Actually I am finding this very useful. I hate that the recording quality of my PVR USB2 is not 100%. I'm going to upgrade the drivers shortly. Thanks!

Hmm, what's wrong with having a bitrate that's 9000?

So you want to record at a higher quality than what the old drivers permitted?

Just wondering if i should update the drivers too, but i am worried about fixing something that isn't broken Smile

I don't think 9000 is actually the full 100% quality bit rate. Only reason I say this is because I ran the FFMpeg utility on one of my recordings and one of the verbose messages decided to spit out the recording quality (89%). That sort of confirmed what my eyes had been telling me for quite some time, that my recordings looked worse than LiveTV via my television.

I always accepted that mpeg-2 compression would result in poorer picture quality than what i saw on t.v... i should try recording in high and see if it makes a big diff. but default medium setting has always worked well for me.

thanks for explaining though!

The only reason I mind at 9000 is because I usually burn my recordings on a DVD, which means that inevitably, I have to re-encode (usually through DVD Shrink) to fit on a DVD. Now that I can record at a lower bitrate, I don't have to use DVD shrink as often.
