Hello all!
I have tried to figure out if it is possible to start up "Live TV" direct (without going through the menu). Couldn’t find it in the forum...
Is it possible?

yep, you can use this command line parameter:

-direct "Live TV"

a full list of the parameters is here

Works like a charm!

...but however, when using "Exit" I’m back in menu. Is it possible to just shut it down?

only with 'drastic' measures.

if you are using a hauppauge remote, you can define e.g. the power-button of your remote to send alt+f4 to gbpvr resulting in the immediate close of the application:

just add/edit
GRNPOWER={alt}{f4}

in the [gbpvr]-section of your irremote.ini
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Thanks!
I’m using a MCE remote, but I suppose it’s possible with the same approach.
I will try this later.
