Hi,

I got a MSI Mega Sky 580 yesterday and have also had some trouble getting it to work with gb-pvr. But once I got it running I havn't had any problems.

OK, this is what I've found out.
It seems to be two versions of the 580. They don't share drivers.

My MSI 580 is called PC-DTV Receiver in the device manger.
I use driver version 1.5.0.1 (2006-02-14)
This is my settings in bda.ini

[MSI Mega Sky 580 Digital TV USB Mini Receiver]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-T
FILTER_TUNER=PC-DTV Receiver
FILTER_CAPTURE=Genesyslogic DTV Filter
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

A good signal is crucial, if not you won't find all programs and even if you do it's not certain that you will get picture.

Note, this won't work if your 580 is called DTV USB MINI in the device manager.

I hope this will help some of you to get it up and running.

/Fred

Hi! I bought Mega Sky few days ago and i also bought a USB 2.0 Host. I installed the USB and it seems to work very well. I'm also able to connect my Mega Sky to the USB and the computer recognizes it, but when i install the drivers from the original CD, my computer stops responding! After booting when i try to log back to my account the image on the screen freezes and does the same thing again as when i installed the driver.

I can use the computer normally when Mega Sky isn't connected, but when i connect it back on the computer thinks for a while and then freezes again.

I Have tried almost everything to solve this problem and i know nothing i could do more.

Thank you!

guiri Wrote:I installed just the 5.1.2600.1043 driver (I have the "Digital TV USB Mini Receiver" device) and the gbpvr software.

I still had the same problem; the scan for my local transmitter (Winter Hill) results in zero strength, zero quality.

I then installed the bundled PVR software and found that it scanned no problem.

I then went back to gbpvr and changed the device settings to All Region / All Channels, and I could then scan everything in.

I think the Winter Hill frequencies are not going to work with the mega sky. In file 0076.ini, the following are given:

Code:
1=C56,754166,0,0,8
2=C66,834166,0,0,8
3=C68,850166,0,0,8
4=C67,842166,0,0,8
5=C60,786166,0,0,8
6=C63,810166,0,0,8
I changed all the 166 to 000, and then it scanned Winter Hill fine. This is at odds with the scanning requirements of other cards (see this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...nter+hill).

It might be that other megasky users are having a similar problem with the frequency definition of some specific regions (so try all regions).

Question for the developer of gbpvr (which I'm going to enjoy playing with now I can get some TV in it) ...

Can the tuning be modified so that it will take account of this type of device, to avoid this confusion? Or is it down to the poor BDA implementation of the megasky as mooted earlier?

I've got my MSI MegaSky USB mini receiver working in GBPVR but very poor quality - stutter and stalling etc. It's been suggested the signal is weak yet Presto PVR shows all channels perfectly.

Would this frequency offset business benefit me? I believe my local transmitter is Rowbridge but that's about all I know. If anyone can give me a step by step of what I need to change, I'd be most grateful.
