After MPeg to AVI conversion, at what point is the reference in the database changed to reflect the new file? And what program, code, batch file, utility does this?

I have my newly recorded MPeg. I have it auto converted to AVI. Now, when I want to watch the show, I want to watch the AVI, not the Mpeg...

Its usually done as part of the recording service's auto conversion stuff.

If you delete the MPEG file, it should automatically pick up the AVI and use that instead.

If I have chosen to convert using PostProcessing.bat, and delete the original MPEG file after the conversion, will GBPVR still use the comskip text file correctly to allow commerical skipping?

It depends. Some of the conversions to XVID end up with an AVI file where I cant determine the 'frames per second', which results in comskip being disabled.

I answered one of my own questions... I deleted the original MPEG (well, 'stored' it in the Recycle Bin) and GBPVR picked up the avi, but did not show Comskip marks on the progress bar...

So I guess the next question is: Would there be a way for GBPVR to use the comskip data with an avi, or should I resign to trusting Comskip and have ComClean cut out the commericals?

(I say 'trust' ComSkip, as I'm still new enough that I'm not sure if I'll lose some of the main programme - already seen some errors though they seem to be allowing a commerical or two rather than cutting out Programme)

If the Microsoft IMediaDET interface can detect the FPS for this file, then the comskip info will still be shown. If it cant, then it wont.

In the next release, I'll look into other was to detect the FPS for these files that are failing.

if you leave the mpg extension for the converted file it usually works...if you use the Intervideo codecs however it won't play because it seems to require avi extensions to play avi files for some reason.

Sorry to go off track but I didnt want to start a whole new thread that is somewhat relevant, when using a media mvp if the shows recorded with it are auto converted to AVI, then when you want to play the converted shows the media mvp will have to reconvert them back to mpeg on the fly right? So that is kind of a bad idea right?

Correct.

If you're using an MVP, I recommend you leave the files as MPEG-2.
