I'm having a laptop: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1420 with these specs:
-Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
-1,60 gigahertz Intel Pentium M
-80 GB HD
-512 MB Ram
-ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 with TV-out
-Realtek AC'97 Audio

What I've come to understand is that I need the WinTV-PVR-USB2. Do I need anything else apart from GBPVR to record TV and watch it on an old TV? I will have the laptop close to my TV.

Regards from newbie Yngve

You dont specifically need the WinTV-PVR-USB2, there are plenty of other usb-based tuner options open to you, see the list on the wiki for a fairly good start.

You might wanna think about a remote control if you are going to be using GBPVR full-time. You will get fairly narked with having to get up and use the laptop to change channel/navigate the menus. But thats one for the future maybe. To get you in a position to experiment with the TV features of GBPVR, you just need a tuner, and use the keyboard until you're sold on the idea of using the system fulltime.

Actually, you dont even need that realy...play some DVDs and transfer some mpeg files to your laptop and play them via GBPVR and this will allow you to see how the OSDs and stuff will work, and weather your laptop is up to the job before you go and buy your tuner.

Thanks!

I've read a bit about the Hauppague usb tuner and I think it seems ok and it comes with a remote. Does this work with GBPVR?

The "Hauppauge PVR USB2" and "Hauppauge PVR2 USB2" both work with GB-PVR. There are some other models without 'PVR' in their name that dont work.
