I would like to burn recordings from gbpvr to DVD and am running into a problem (not related to gbpvr). I am using the ULEAD movie creator (?) that came with my Hauppauge 150 card (I have also tried Nero). If I try to burn a show that was 2 hours, it says there is not enough capacity on a DVD. It does not matter the size of the mpg file (based on recording in high or medium quality). It also does not matter what quality level I use for the burning. Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

in the 'project' settings there is a checkbox for not compressing content that is dvd compatible..[if they aren't,it will re-compress them everytime]
i think it's called 'smart-render' and also the reason it's saying only that much will fit is because the profile you selected [compression settings] is about 4200kbps so only 2 hours of video at that rate will fit on a dvd..
make sure the files are dvd compatible first, [good dvd frame size [720x480,etc] and then make sure when you go to burn the dvd, change the format to dvd-video "reeditable" in the advanced button on burn page...
that way it won't recompress and will burn without temp files, immediately..Smile
[about 10-15 mins to burn whole dvd]

What I usually do is edit the commercials out first (comskip & mencoder) and transform the new mpeg in NeroVision. Least then a 2hr show will fit on a DVD without shrinking.

Who wants commercials on a DVD anyhow. Amazing how much time is wasted with the commercials left in.

you mean it's amazing how litle show is left after you cut the commercials out right?! lol just over half since the recent move from 20 mins/hr to 25/hr of commercials... geez..!
yea, nero does work, but with dvdmf you can burn as it creates the dvd structure...Smile mpegs straight to disk in half the time...Big Grin
mencoder does work surprisingly well to cut the comms, but i think video-redo does a better job at the cut points..[tho mencoder is very usable for this]

a 2 hr. medium recording should fit no problem even with comms...just make sure it's not re-compressing it..

oh and i made a dvd burning add-on that uses nero and dvdauthor..Big Grin
[menus and all!] [search for showburner]
shameless plug...lol

Please bear with me as I am somewhat new to burning dvd's from mpgs. Am I correct that the dvd format is more time dependant that quality (size) of the mpg file? I run into the same problems getting a 2 hour mpg recorded by gbpvr (great program by the way) no matter if I record in high quality (5.4Gb) or medium quality (3.6Gb). It seems they both require the same space when creating a dvd. I was never able to get ULEAD's MovieFactory to squeeze it onto one dvd. I was able to get Nero to at least say if will fit it onto one dvd by lowering the quality (same resolution just lower bit rate). Nero says I should be able to get about 240 minutes (4 hours) at that rate but it uses every bit of space on the dvd for just two hours. I have tried the suggestions mentioned and the help but do not get all the way. I could cut out commercials but there will be times when I want to get ~2 hours that will not have commercials. Am I missing something or is that just the way it is? Thank you.
