I'll tell you to go one step further. Take the LED out of the little red cover. Aim the LED straight at the sensor window on your STB. Use tape if you have to, but make it so the wire straight on the face of the STB. I beat my head against the wall for three days trying to get this to work on a Diretv D10. It turns out the LED is just very weak. If you see it blinking red at all, its working.
