Now, with me being Lazy & all Big Grin - I was wondering if anyone else had already set up some comskip INI file for use with NZ channels.

I would like to know what settings are used for Discovery (sometimes the ads change aspect ratio, and some ads there is no logo - but on some it still appears)

Who is NZ actually uses Comskip - and how much success have they had with it - how much tinkering did it take to get it correct?

Sky Sports would also be a good channel for skipping ads - but I think that may be difficult as the action on the screen may interfere with Comskips heruistics etc.

Any help greatly appreciated!

i use it, but again im too lazy to bother trying to tweak it, for me it works about 50% of the time (higher on tv2/3, crap on prime).

I've got one for tvnz based stuff, but I need to re-tweak it after the newest versions of comskip. Works ok..

It's E! channel I want to get sorted.

I dont actually record at all from E!, but my partner watches a lot of it - so I know how many ads they put in.

I'll try some TVNZ programs and see how they go (the only things I get from those channels are again for my partner)

But if I can get it working, then I may be able to see how to tune it, then spend some hours playing until I get it right.

I thought I might see about getting a collection of info together for NZ channels - seeing as there are a few of us using GBPVR (and other software I guess)

Would anyone be interested in contributing to a comskip_NZ page?

Also, does recording quality / bitrate etc vary the accuracy of comskip - or should it work pretty much all of the time.
Do you think the quality of the signal into the capture card would also influence comksips ability to work?

At least with Discovery I know that skipping forward 30 secs x 3, then back 10 secs x 1 gets me to the start of the program again. (mostly!)

Thanks

TVNZ 4 skip is about the best.

Yeah I'd help contribute if you wanted to set up a page.

I don't know if this helps. I record only FTA channels and this is pretty good (80-90%) at removing ads. I did a google search to find it

detect_method=43 ;1=black frame, 2=logo, 4=scene change, 8=fuzzy logic, 16=closed captions, 32=aspect ration, 255=all

verbose=10 ;show a lot of extra info, level 5 is also OK, set to 0 to disable
max_brightness=60 ;frame not black if any pixels checked are greater than this (scale 0 to 255)
test_brightness=40 ;frame not pure black if any pixels checked are greater than this, will check average brightness (scale 0 to 255)

max_avg_brightness=20 ;maximum average brightness for a dim frame to be considered black (scale 0 to 255) 0 means autosetting

max_commercialbreak=600 ;maximum length in seconds to consider a segment a commercial break
min_commercialbreak=10 ;minimum length in seconds to consider a segment a commercial break
max_commercial_size=220 ;maximum time in seconds for a single commercial or multiple commercials if no breaks in between

min_commercial_size=4 ;mimimum time in seconds for a single commercial

min_show_segment_length=120 ; any segment longer than this will be scored towards show.
excessive_length_modifier=1

non_uniformity=1000
max_volume=500 ; any frame with sound volume larger than this will not be regarded as black frame
intelligent_brightness=0 ;
delete_logo_file=0 ; set to 1 if you want comskip to tidy up after finishing
output_framearray=0 ; create a big excel file for detailed analysis, set to 0 to disable
connect_blocks_with_logo=1 ; set to 1 if you want successive blocks with logo on the transition to be regarded as connected, set to 0 to disable

logo_percentile=0.92 ; if more then this amount of logo is found then logo detection will be disabled
logo_threshold=0.70
aggressive_logo_rejection=0
cut_on_ar_change=0 ; set to 1 if you want to cut also on aspect ratio changes, set to 0 to disable
delete_show_after_last_commercial=1; delete the last block if its a show and after a commercial
delete_show_before_or_after_current=1
shrink_logo=0 ; Reduce the duration of the logo with this amount of seconds
output_videoredo=0
output_womble=0
output_mpgtx=0
output_zoomplayer_chapter=0
output_zoomplayer_cutlist=0
padding=0
live_tv=0

Yeah, I foudn that comskip file too - so I'll copy a fewof my recordings onto my fatser PC tonight, and run / tweak as much as I can and see what I can get going.

This file is not meant for discovery, according to the post I saw - I think that may have something to do with the logo detection, and the fact the logo top out the logo percentile field, meaning that method gets switched off.

I'll let people know the results, or any enhancements I can make.

Also it is also relatively dependent on your capture source - after putting some time in a while ago with both comskip and showanalyazer I was able to get it working with around 80%-90% accuracy with either my dvb card or my pvr150, but not with both, so someone else's .ini file may not work perfectly for you immediately either. (although that of course would probably relate to things like brightness rather than commercial length etc)

Well, I'm still using version 0.64 - what is the latest anyway? A while back I tried to upgrade but the newer versions didn't seem to work as well, and I didn't have the time to try and tweak it. 0.64 works about 66% of the time. It either works really well or not very well depending on the program/channel.

Is it worthwhile upgrading now?
