I am using a Hauppage PVR500. In the playback tab/Hardware decoder device, it doesnt give me the option of using the PVR500. The only options I have are "None - use software decoder" "Hauppauge PVR350" and "Sigma Designs Xcard" The other two dont work at all and when I use software decoding I only get audio. Any suggestions?

the pvr 350 and the xcard are the only hardware decoder supported.... and: the pvr 500 does not have a mpeg decoder, but only encoder.
meaning software decoding is the right choice.

try the following: record something via tv guide and play it in e.g. windows media player. if it does not work in wmplayer either, you probably have no codec installed.

on the same tab in the config (playback) you have the part 'software playback' and three drop downs. check what entries you have in 'video decoder'. as a test, try to set them to something other as system default.
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

'preciate it. I got it working now. The video quality could be better though. Is there any way to improve it? It's not bad, but it could be better. Not quite like the tv on its own.

Hey, THere are about a million posts regarding quality of MPEG decoding. Try the sticky first (it's called "Dissappointing MPEG-2 decoding")
Then if thats not helping - do some searching. One of the guys on the board here, Csy, seems to have written some great guides on tweaking GBPVR and it's video playback.

Thanks
