I want to put a tuner card in my pc so I can watch/record some shows and maybe convert them to play on my Ipod. I have been looking at the Hauppauge 150 and some based on Ati thetare 550 chipset. I see that the 150 doesn't have fm capabilities, but if that's the better of the two then I'll deal with it.If anyone else has a recommendation, let me here it.Thanks

The PVR150 MCE model has FM capabilities.

Either a PVR150 or ATI 550 Pro derived card should be fine. They're both pretty good.

You may want to carefully consider if you need a remote before buying, as there are several options depending what exactly you end up buying. Some well supported by GB-PVR, some not.

I don't have any sort of media center stuff now, so I guess the MCE is out of the question?

Yes. The PVR150MCE is usable on normal XP etc. Its just a slightly different configuration of PVR150 (adds FM, removes remote - though bundles including MCE remote are also available). All the ATI 550 cards are pretty much identical, with the exception of the remotes which varies depending on specific manufacturer.

So I can use PVR150MCE eventhough I don't have Windows Media center? and I may or may not get a remote with the 150mce,unless it is provided by the manufacturer? The local electronics dealer has the Ati Tv wonder elite on sale for around 100.00 us. It's a little higher than what I can get the Pvr150mce for.

Yes, you can use the 150MCE without Windows Media Center. There are different bundled kits with remote and without. For example, I've seen the 150MCE without remote for like $60.
Dedicated HTPC: MSI K7N420 Pro, AMD 2200+, 1.5GB RAM, PVR150, 550Pro, ATI 9800XT, 300GB Maxtor HD, Diamond XTreme DDL Sound, MVP over wireless bridge, GBPVR 1.2.13

Good. I think that I'll go shopping around for the 150MCE today. I see some pretty good reviews on it.Big Grin

Well, the only 150MCE I found was the one that had the remote without Fm capabilities,so I decided to just get the PVR150 instead. After I install the drivers for the card, then I should download GB-PVR instead of the included wintv, right?

yes, although it's not a bad idea to makde sure that the card works correctly with the supplied wintv software before installing gbpvr. You can always uninstall it afterwards.

As well as the drivers, you will need to install the ir software and the intervideo mpeg decoder software (unless you have another mpeg decoder from something like windvd).

You can get the latest drivers and useful info from here
