I've been reading (a lot) but I'm still not clear what's the best method for playing AVI's with correct aspect ratio.

From what I understand some folks transcode video files from avi to mpg using batch files, and then playback the mpg's. I also read somewhere to just use hauppauge software for avi playback. I gather there is no possibility of mapping the aspect ratio control (F7) to a button on the MVP remote?

I guess what I would like to know is there any 'real-time' GBPVR method for watching AVI's using the correct aspect ratio? ,...and if there is could someone give me the '411'...Wink

mapping the F7 button won't help because the MVP can't change AS.
A while back (about 6 weeks I guess) there were posts from Zehd and (I think) PbS with scripts for what you want. They made batchfiles for the trans2mvp.bat which added the right black bars, so you get the right AS.
good luckSmile I had them working for me if I used them beforehand but couldn't get it to work real time.

Can anyone confirm the Hauppauge software handles AVI playback with correct aspect ratio?

Thanks for pointing me to those discussions - I read through but it's seems kinda complicated for me.:o I think the batch files and utilities are all geared towards offline (not real-time) processing...but I could be misunderstanding the information...

I guess I'll have to wait for the 'Transcoding for Dummies' edition! Wink

These batch files are used for on the fly processing when playing back avi's, but of course you could also use them off line.

I thought somebody added a good version of a trans2mvp.bat for correct aspect ratio on the wiki, but it seems to have disappeared....?
