I'm using a NEC ND3500 DVD RW drive in my PVR. All works well except that it is too noisey when playing back DVDs.  I can reduce the DVD read speed using Nero DriveSpeed V2.0.  However when putting new DVD in the drive the speed resets to the original maximum speed.  I want to be able to start DriveSpeed via a shortcut and use command line options to set the drive speed. This page http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=...speed.html provides some hints on command line options but this seems to cover an older version ie Drive speed for CD-Roms only.  I would expect that there are more option to cover dvd drives.

Does any one have details of the command line options to use with this version of Nero DriveSpeed?  TIA

Here's another utility you can try. I've never used it, but I've read that it works. The page is in German, but the program supposedly installs in English too.

Chris, I tried DriveSpeed with my 3500 and launched DVD Decrypter with the /EXEC parameter so I could see exactly what speed the drive was reading at and it worked. However, the speed parameter didn't work exactly as you would expect. Using 2, the drive started ripping at 1x, not 2x. I didn't let it run long enough to see if it increased.

Barry thanks. However I am looking for the /switches that will enable me to leave the CD read speed alone but set the DVD read speed to somethink like x8.

The switches do that. I used this command line <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">DriveSpeed.exe /ha:0 /id:2 /s:2[/QUOTE]
I immediately ran a Nero CD-DVD Speed transfer rate test on my CD burner. It started reading at 18.2x, just as it does if I don't run the command. I stopped that and then ran DVD decrypter. It reads the DVD at 1x. Without running the above command DVD Decrypter starts reading the DVD at 6.2x. The only drive affected is the one specified by the /ha and /id parameters.

Barry,  I think that the switch syntax you are using will work for v1.x of DriveSpeed.  I cannot get this syntax to work for the latest version of DriveSpeed which is designed for DVD writers.  Hence my first post above.

Chris, the version of DriveSpeed I'm using is 2.0.4.0.
