Cheap analog video extenders mean everybody can see what you are seeing.
P4 3GHz 1GB, 250GB, nVidia dualTV, GBPVR 1.3.11, XP

I'm not so worried about that, however, when I buy my Plasma televisions I will want to have a quality video/audio signal capable of HD. I don't think that an extender will cut it. Neither do I believe that the extenders allow one to control their media selections (or at least the ones I've seen at the local Best Buy).

I always google (and froogle too). I just didn't see any reputable stores that sold it (i.e. ones that I use on a regular basis or have been recommended, not to say the stores that carry this product are not good, just unknown to me).

But for my particular usage, I wanted to be able to control my PVR PC (scheduling, recording and time-shifting) from my living room, so the MVP with GBPVR became the best solution.
I'm working on the "best of all worlds" scenario for the MVP right now. I'm improving my mvpmc Hauppauge emulation mode with the goal of providing full functionality with GB-PVR and at the same time I'm working on providing UPnP support for media servers like TVersity. One device, one remote.

For me, it's not a question of looking at "alternatives" it's a question of having a choice.

I know this isn't the most cost effective solution but microsoft has allowed library sharing via WMP 11 Beta 2. This means that any windows device will be able to share your entire library without the need for MCE. That being said, the Xbox 360 is supposedly receiving an update that will help facilitate that functionality. So if you own a 360, then you've already got your dummy terminal. All you need to do is wait for the upgrade.

An old Xbox running Xbox Mediacentre can play almost anything, has a great front end and ermm you can play games too!

Downside: there are some legal issues with modding your Xbox.

Thanks to everyone who has been involved with this thread. I have learned about some things that I never knew existed. Keep it coming.

With the holiday shopping season around the corner, I'm sure there are some cutting edge solutions out there. Does anyone know of new release hardware/software coming out in October?
