newb to skinning

i was wanting to start looking into creating a skin but dont know where to start - anyone want to give me a push in the right direction...

First thing to do is look at skin layouts and decide what layout looks closest to what you wish to do. Use that skin as a guide and start tweaking from there. Decide if you are going to use alot of images to get the look (MCE2,Advisor,Tipstir's skins,ect) or xml colors (Blue, ContourHC). Plain Jane uses a combination of both styles which focuses on a single image for static background images. You have to figure out which way you want to go and look at those skins to get hints on how things are done.

You can take a look at some of the tutorials I wrote and see if they confuse you completely. Feel free to ask as many questions as it takes to get a satisfactory answer.

The best advice I can give is to skin for yourself. Do what you want. Do what you like. That is the best way to start.

The Baseskin/Themepack tutorial gives some explanations of what is going on within a xml file if you are unsure of what is going on there.
