I have discovered a bug in the install program. I think it assumes that all servers have a SQLite database now and I was unsuccessful in upgrading from 96.12 to 98.08. If you want to move to 98.08, it seems you will have to upgrade to 97.13 as an intermediate release before moving to 98.08.

Otherwise I recieved a SQLite exception for login using "Password" when the config utility was started. This error kept popping up whenever I tried to do any tasks and my entire configuration database was empty. I backed 98.08 to 96.12 and then tried installing 97.13 which went great. After that I upgraded to 98.08 and had no errors in the install process.

I would recommend anyone moving from 96.12 or earlier to install 97.13 first. Not sure if anyone else has this problem but it definitely solved mine. I wish I had kept the logs to send to sub.

I'll take you're word for it. In theory it should work even if you're jumping major releases, but we only test upgrades from the last major release. Upgrades from anything else probably comes under the 'it should work if you're lucky' category of answer...

I did a client install on a machine that was on a very old rev and saw something similair. I don't think I have any logs from it either but I will check. I fixed it by copying the database files from my server machine to the client and then going into the client to set it up as a client. I also forgot to install .net 2.0 first...

sub - I guess I had gotten spoiled by how well all the other installs went. You are a victim of your own success! Big Grin

I will be sure to keep up versions in the future, I had been stuck at 96.12 for a long time waiting for the XRecord bugs to be worked out. I just wanted to post a note in case anyone else ran across the same issue and did a search.

I still can't get over how well this program works even on my old outdated hardware. Smile Keep up the great work!

I just came across this problem as well, went from 96.12 to 98.8. Any suggestions on the sequence of steps to take to go back?

Also, I couldn't find any posts telling how to do a basic upgrade. Have upgrade instructions been documented?

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. Where can I get the 97.13 file so I can try the interim upgrade step?

Thanks

Whew!!! I did it, I did it [<Awkward Guy Dance>]. Smile

It wasn't easy. I had 96.8 forever and was very happy with it. The itch to upgrade finally took over and I tried the 98.8b upgrade. Didn't quite workout and got the errors gexi mentioned in this thread. I saved the logs (see attached) so sub can take a look at it if he is curious.

So, I backed out to 96.8 and then did 97.13 using the link sub provided. This went well and all my settings in the config app were retained. Then I did the database conversion and that also completed successfully. Just to make sure, I ran the config app again, and it gave an error about not being able to load the plugin list, etc. All the other data was there except the plugin list was empty in that tab.

I ignored this error and went ahead to upgrade to 98.8b. The installation went well, but config app gave an error about connection string not setup correctly. I found the answer via a forum search, which sub provided, and reinstalled the guid2j and the bundled xrecord. This resolved the plugin list error and my plugins are back! I am happy now. Now on to setting up the plugins....and trying Sassari....Smile
