Installing a new drive to hold the gbpvr recordings and other large media as the current drive no longer has the room to fit it all. I've searched around for a bit and found MpegImport. I would go ahead a give MpegImport a try to see what happens, but I really don't want to mess this up without first asking you guys. Would this be the correct program / plugin to use for moving the recordings folder?

Currently using version 1.4.7. Also if there is already a forum post on this topic, I couldn't find it and do apologize.

mpegimport is more for importing stuff from elsewhere or that has been lost.

Most important thing is to make a copy of the database in a safe place in case something goes wrong and do an "export" from the plugins tab of config.
When I moved directories, I edited the exported xml file from the above with a global find and replace of the old and new directory.

There again, the wiki has http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...leArchiver this is probably a better way.
You will also have to change the directory in config to say where new recordings are going to be made.

or you could make the new drive the same letter as the old one and copy the files over manually...
that is, if you don't need the old drive to stay where it is..
as long as the path is the same...
ex: h:\mpg is rec dir.. stop rec service, open disk management and change drive letter to something else, change new drive letter to be h: and copy existing recordings from old drive to h:\mpg..
then restart rec service...done...

i also made a second batch file that moves a whole series directory at a time same as simple archiver...[i think the whole dir one on thread is old..]
let me know if you need current one...it makes things go faster..[copying takes quite a while]

Hey thanks for the quick response everyone!

@martint123: Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a ton! One thing though that has to do with the hardware and what pBS is saying below . . .

@pBS: This might be the best way to go if I want to maximize space. The main problem is that I currently have junctions and symlinks pointing from drive C: to drive D: . I supposed I could try to clone my old drive D (1tb) to the new larger drive (2tb), but I am not sure if it will copy all the junctions, symlinks, etc. Would you guys by chance know if it would copy the links over?

Either way, both are good suggestions and I will be giving them a lot of thought. Thanks again!

I give up and wave my hands in the air with junctions and the like. Although I was happy with linux some years ago, I have only just come into contact with W7 and the fancy f/s tools.

Just a thought though. If you are adding an extra drive, then there is nothing to stop you leaving your existing recordings where they are and point the recording directory to the new drive. Your old recordings would be picked up from the database fine and the new recordings will go on the new drive.

Lost me also Martin, but what Martin has said is the easiest way as long as you have a spare drive bay? and your PSU can take the extra load of another HD.

yea, just adding new drive and pointing rec dir to that new drive will work as you said...easiest method overall...Smile
all old recs will still be available on old path and new ones will go to new drive...no problem..

i love junctions and use them regularly...[tho i have them all created and just use the dirs regularly]
they are pretty much only useful for a series at a time..[dir junctions, no file junctions]
i use them to offload simultaneous recordings to separate drives...Smile
say you have 2 re-occurrings that happen at same time regularly, link one to another drive and it will offload disk access and prevent fragmenting of those shows..
without it, you end up with 2 shows split up into thousands of fragments each, and half the disk throughput while recording..
try my little ntfslinker helper app in my sig, it helps you set them up..[even copies files for existing dirs]

Because I was desperate to have all my recordings located in one directory I decided to use SuperSimpleArchiver. It was a bit of challenge at first because I was trying to test archive files that were not located in the GBPVR directory and had also missed reading about the log files so as you could guess, I was pulling my hair out until I read the log file and also realized that my recorded files had to be located in the Video Library (duh), so I moved them. Then I realized I could have probably just have made a junction from their original location into the Video Library. After a while I did managed to get all 75 directories to the new 2tb (moving from a 1tb). Thanks to everyone for helping out.

Also for anyone wondering, I found junctions difficult at first myself, but this (http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshell...llext.html) page explained it very well. Hope this helps someone.
