I am looking at various tuner options at the moment, (actually Dual Tuners as per this thread) to supplement my existing PVR-150 which is the el-cheapo WinTV-PVR-150MCE (model 1042) (aka OEM) white BOX Model with no IR and No Remote. Basically I didn't really know what I was purchasing when I built my PVR or I would have got one WITH a remote. Now I am (hopefully) somewhat better informed.

If I get another card (say a PVR150 e.g. or a luscious Theater 650) with a remote, and I want to watch TV on the PC with the remote, how do I ensure I can GBPVR uses the Tuner that can be accessed with the remote and not the one that does not?

A forum search shows "Tuner Priority" has been discussed many times (esp. as a wishlist item :o ). In this post (amongst many others) sub notes:
Quote:When you try to schedule a recording, it works its way down the capture source list (in the order shown in the config app), looking for an capture source that has the required channel and is available at the requested time. If you antenna capture source is listed first, and has the requested channel enabled, and is not scheduled for something else, then it should be selected.
i.e. The tuners get allocated at scheduling time, as Stefan notes in the same thread.

Q1. So just to confirm, as long as
(i) The new card WITH the remote is FIRST in the list in the config AND
(ii) Nothing is scheduled for that card at the time I start e,g, LiveTV

then I should be able to watch LiveTV with my new remote?

Q2. The biggy. What happens then, if I am merrily watching LiveTV on that Tuner (with the Remote) and some time later it comes to a program where that Tuner has been scheduled, will it automatically switch to the other Tuner (the one without the remote), assuming it is FREE i.e. NOT allocated to recording something, or will it simply give me the option to Watch the recording that was scheduled for the Tuner WITH the remote? i.e. does it "LOCK" that Tuner regardless?

Q1) The remote is logically separate from the capture device. I doesnt matter which capture device you're using, or for what, the remote will still function.

Q2) If you're watching live tv on a tuner that will be used to start a recording in the next minute or so, it'll try to move the recording to another available tuner that has the requested channel. If that is not possible, then the user will be kicked out of live tv when the recording is due to start. (forget the remote parts of this question - its a non issue).

 Sorry, I'm confused. Let's say I get a (new) PVR-150 with an IR and Remote. Surely as the remote will only transmit to the beanbag connected directly to that Tuner, ONLY that (new) tuner's channels can be changed with the remote? Or are you saying that GBPVR intercepts the remotes signal and changes the channel on whichever tuner is currently in use? If this is correct (and it would be just GREAT if it were) as surely then folks who want (say) 4 tuners, would just need to buy 3 x cheaper OEM ones and just ONE with a remote. Please tell me this is true Smile ?

GREAT, that's what I was hoping for, some smarts in Tuner handling.

Cheers

No, thats not correct. The remote is pretty much a separate device (ignore the fact its physically on a capture card). GB-PVR doesnt even know its connected to a capture card.

In the case of the Hauppauge remote, buttons on the remote get translated to fake keyboard keypresses which are sent to GB-PVR. GB-PVR can do anything it want in relation to the key presses (including starting recordings on capture devices connected to the machine). It at no time knows the keypress originated from a remote connected to a specific capture device.

Oh mate, you made my day. Awesome-ness.

Thanks sub, that is truly great behaviour on the part of GBPVR.
