I have a Hauppauge PVR-250 with the newest drivers installed from their website on a computer with Windows XP installed and updated. I have digital cable, but I run a splitter - one to my cable box and one to my computer. I installed the GBPVR v0.98.13b about 2 weeks ago. I should mention that I love the program; it's fantastic. I don't get any digital cable channels (understandably), but I got up to about channel 65. I set up the GB-PVR recorder to record a few of my favorite programs, and all was well.
Suddenly, about a week later, the live television stopped working. All of the channels just displayed a jumbled grey static image (I attached a screenshot). I'm still getting audio on some channels, but the video is all fuzz. I thought maybe my cable provider had upgraded to some sort of cable scrambling, but my WinTV2000 works absolutely fine. This computer is just a media box, so I had made no upgrades or changes to my computer since initially installing GB-PVR.
I have been digging through the support forum, and it looks like there have been similar problems reported, with varying degrees of success. Some reported that upgrading their Hauppauge drivers worked, which I just tried uninstalling and re-installing my drivers. Someone reported that his cable signal was too weak, so I bypassed my cable box and ran my cable directly from the wall into my TV card. Some reported that switching their video decoders from VMR9 to VMR7 worked. I have tried every decoder method I can think of, and I can't seem to get any improvement in quality.
I did find out that if I edit my Recording Source under the "Capture Sources" tab and switch it from "Cable" to "Antenna", then I can get channels 1-12 just as clearly as i used to get 1-65.
I hope I've given you enough information. I'll be happy to provide anything more that you need. As I said, I really love the program, and I'd love to expand my cable channels back to where they were originally.
