I have a wife that is extremely picky about her TV. She wants it to just work and look good.

I am using the .123 Nvidia decoder with an ATI 9550. I have the deinterlace set to auto on both the card and the decoder. The image is slightly blurred. It is just noticable. I can live with it, but the wife can't.

Can anyone help???

try different video decoders - they all look slightly different. There's a few free on the internet (dscaler and stinky come to mind) Google for mpeg2 codecs or go to videohelp.com.
Also cyberlink and intervideo supply them with purchased dvd software , or you may already have an older version of theirs if you received a bundled copy of powerdvd or windvd when you purchased a dvd drive.

They all have various pros and cons for stability, picture quality, features etc - it's easy to swap between them in the config app - but I'd recommend at least a day or twos veiwing with each one to put it through its paces before you decide which works best for you.

Are there any free ones that will take advantage of my ATI 9550 deinterlacing?

i use dscaler[free] and it supports the hardware deinterlacing in current version...
i believe also nvidia[pay] and cyberlink/powerdvd[pay also] do...

to make sharper on that card, set 'video mode' in ATI display properties[not overscan or regular] and/or use overlay for output mode in gbvr instead of vmr..or try vmr7..
i have to adjust the gbpvr size in config.xml in 'zoom' settings to shrink the screen a bit after applying 'video mode' as it overscans too much on ati cards..

What settings do you use in dscaler? Are you using the latest Dscaler MPEG2 Video decoder? I don't see an option in the video decoder for hardware deinterlace. Do I need to tweak the registry?
