Hello
If I open a saved video that has been comclean'd via SMB share, my XBMC can play through it no problem.

If I stream the video over VLC, the stream will break down, but only at the cut and paste points for comclean. The file, and I have tried several with identical results, will play and stream just fine at any quality setting until it gets to a commercial cutout. Then, it will hang, for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, and later it will pick back up right after the commercial skip area and play normal again, until the next clean'd spot.

Our 802.11g network is too slow to play the files over SMB, but fast enough for a decent stream, so I'd rather stream it to the laptop. The XBMC is connected over 802.11n bridge, so there's ample bandwidth for the SMB option.

GBPVR v0.98.13b
VLC player 0.8.5

Thanks!

Can anyone confirm for me that this is not a known issue? That is, can someone just post and confirm that when they record a show, use comclean and comskip to automagically remove commercials, that they can then stream the file over VLC at any quality setting correctly? That there's no stutter at the commercials?

Thanks!

Also, are there any other streaming apps that could be used in the place of VLC? I've reinstalled it and the issue persists. I don't really think it's a VLC issue but thanks anyways.

Comclean create a file with non continues PTS.
This causes some mpeg players to hang (for some time)

Alternative for streaming with VLC is to use TVersity as UPnP server and a UPnP playback at the other end of the network. Works like a charm with the right UPnP player.

Otehr alternative is to use one of the comclean variants that do create a continues PTS timeline. One is mencoder (use comclean3.bat) or use comclean2.bat (demux and remux)

Thank you.

edit: Is there a simple command-line based remixer that you recommend? Ideally I could insert it at the end of the processing bat file and have it run automagically.

Yes,

Its call retime and you can download a retime.zip from my website.
Instructions are inside the zip file.
There is a retime.bat you have to run with the right parameters.

Thank you erik, may the light of wisdom burn within you with the heat of a thousand suns.

or something.

edit
OK, I got it working and I'm now chewing through the other 300 gigs of recorded content, file by file, so I can stream it as well.
My new question is regarding file size. I've noticed that the before and after file sizes are different. On a 1 gig file, about 5 megs is lost after remuxing. The files seem to play fine and don't have any obviously missing content, but I was curious if anyone else had seen this behavior as well.
Thanks again!

Yes, I have. I don't know what is being "lost", but it hasn't caused me any problems.
