I'm using gb-pvr mostly for playing my existing mpeg videos and also sometimes for playing a video that wintvcap is currently recording. I noticed that during playback gb-pvr does not know that file is growing. I'm using wintvcap separately from gb-pvr. I don't know if it makes a difference, but anyway it seems that gb-pvr checks the file length when starting the playback and stops after the time is achieved. So could it be possible to play video file even if it's ongoing recording?

Yes, I'm aware of this but its not as easy as you might think. I've wasted weeks trying to find work arounds for this in the past. Windows (directshow specifically) gives me two options for how to play a MPEG file:

1) As a live source, with an unknown size. The major limitation is that no seeking is allowed. You can Pause or Play, but you cant skip forward/back or RW/FF. This is what livetv is currently using.

2) As standard file, with size known at the time playback starts. This can seek/ff/rw/etc, but is unable to change the playback duration as it plays.

Unfortunately this is something I'm unable to change (without writing my own DirectShow MPEG2 Parser Filter to replace the Microsoft one).

OK, I understand. Could it be then possible to start the player with a specific parameter for live source?

Ok, look into making this an option.
