Really my only one would be to select which tuner to record a show on (in a multi-tuner configuration).

I really needed this functionality since I have a dual-tuner satellite and can't have GBPVR change the channel on one of the tuners (it uses UHF not IR to for the remote). I also have a standalone OTA STB with output of each receiver going to a different tuner card in my PC, so I have to be able to tell GBPVR which card to use to capture the correct input.

As a work-around, (and thanks to the forum!) I have a channel lineup for each tuner so I can select which one I want to use, but having 3 listings for each channel is not very user friendly Sad In my case, it's okay since I don't watch live tv using it.

Sorry, but thats one I'm just not keen on. There is so much logic in GB-PVR that depends on being able to move recordings to other capture sources when it needs to - and this would just get in the way. I also dont personally want to see the capture sources specified anywhere in the interface.

from a programming standpoint i agree on not being able to select a tuner to record on. The more human intervention in areas like this the more likely things are to go wrong.

Another nod here to zehd. I completely agree and also applaud you on being able to incorporate "terse" into your argument. Bravo Smile

man i should have seen how long this thread was before posting. As for features I really like it as is now. My issues have just already been on those that are out of sub's hands, namely hardware issues. I'd settle just to know the name and email address of someone at Nvidia that will fix their HD output tearing issue with VMR9. I know you have butted your head up against a wall a few times on the Full Screen Exclusive mode but it just shouldnt have to be that way.

Being in the US i am pretty spoiled to have the zap2it available. The program has been very solid for me and everything added at this point is just gravy for me. Thanks again for all your hard work sub.

Trust me, its pretty common to just get some generic description shows. Sometimes whole channels do this, so you'll see generic stuff like the Simpsons having a subtitle or description saying stuff like 'the hilarious antics of the whacky simpson family. Even in countries with better listing, you'll often have generic descriptions for News and Current Affairs types of shows. Zap2it's codes takes the guess work out of this.

Well, in my experience (I have been running with a pretty poor XMLTV feed for the last year or so), it's different per show.... Some shows have good descriptions (especially the longer-running shows like Star Trek or CSI and stuff), and for some shows it's pretty poor. It depends on the channel they're on too (here in Holland the channels provide their own data, and it gets send put virtually unaltered). That's why it's imperative to be able to choose this in a per-season-recording mode (you can really do this on seperate shows on seperate channels). That's what CDK could do, and that's also what I am trying to do now....

Yeah, that was exactly my point. The user (and their wife and other users of the system) has to know alot about there data, which makes it a bit to much thought-required for my liking.

I do see the place for it though, and can understand why you'd want it, but because of these difficulties with poor xmltv data, I think its better suited to external apps like the CDK scheduler rather than integrated with the core app.

I do appreciate the comments though, even if I dont necessarily agree.

fbachofner Wrote:I was thinking about many of the same issues and though one way to deal with some of them would be to have separate polls for different areas of GBPVR.

For example: scheduling and recording; live-tv; playback (recorded TV, music, photos), configuration, etc. Each of these could be a separate poll limiting each users choice to ONE (within each poll) so you get a good idea of what is considered most important by a majority of (forum participating) users in each polled area of GBPVR.

one reason why i would start with only one poll: KISS
the users don't care which area a feature belongs to. they just want to get it Wink
it's also easier for sub to see what we regard as important. we can allways change the number of polls for future releases, let's start with the basics

after some hard thinking: it's easier to have multiple choice, that way users don't have to decide which is THE ONE choice to vote for. and you even get input from the users who voted for everything (hell, they can't decide but still the same would like to see all features implemented, absolute numbers do matter Wink)

fbachofner Wrote:I would like to think that "new/enhanced feature request polls" would also NOT be released for at least a week after a new release to give the pollster a chance to discover new capabilities.

On that topic, 0.99.5 has been out about a month. Based on your (historic) release timetable there might be a new release imminent. Maybe I should wait a couple more days to post a features poll? :o

the week after each release will barely be enough for the preliminary polls Wink
i guess we'll need the time till the next release just for the brainstorming & preliminary polls...
