local volume control

I'm using "local volume" for my volume control and my only complaint is that there are 10 levels of volume. If there a way to get more control over volume without having to send IR to my receiver? I'd rather not mess with HIP, I can't even get it to recognize my 150 as the input source.

No matter which one I pick I only get 10 steps. I wish it could be modified.
