Just wondering if anybody could shed some light on this scenario.
Attempt to play an avi file with my MVP. Within 1 second the MVP crashes back to the mvpmc boot screen. But... if I log on to the PVR server, launch pvrx2 I see ffdshow popup and the movie starts playing!
The only option I could think of that would influence this is the "interact with desktop" option. I already had this turned on.

I have ffdshow installed plus the SAF codecs pack Soborg created.

I looked at the confix.xml file and I can still see references to zprocess (which I have not installed) I don't know enough about this to edit the config file properly or I would. Although I don't know why that would make a difference if the local machine can play them and the mvp can't.

I have included logs and the config file for any who are interested.

Thanks

The mvp can't play avi-files natively. If you want to watch a avi through the mvp the server has to transcode (on the fly) it first to mpg, before it sends it to the mvp. So normally when you start a avi through the mvp it would take several secs (5-10) before the file starts playing. In your case something else seems wrong because it quits right away. ffdshow and other codecs have nothing to do with this, the transcoding is done by ffmpeg.
Maybe try another avi, I think there are some avi's ffmpeg can't handle.

I have run across some files it couldn't handle but with this, before I upgraded to 1.4.7 everything was working fine. When I first looked into GB a year ago or so somebody gave me the crash lecture on what the MVP could and couldn't handle, so I'm familiar with that aspect.
I am not that familiar with how the inner workings are of sub's creation, but it would seem that with 1.3.x could handle avi files be transcoded on the fly and now 1.4.7 can't. Something broke in the process. I have formated my GB server at least 8 time in the past 2 weeks going back and forth between Vista and W7 to try and see if one works better than the other for this. Doesn't seem to make any difference except the web portion refuses to work in 7.

One more addition: The logs don't show anything about your problem because you have 2 mvp's auto-started. If you want to post the logs again you have to set the autostart mvp-servers to 1, then try again and post your logs.

medic29, those logs for the MVP aren't useful because you are AutoStarting 2 MVP servers. You will need to set it to one. However I think this is just a continuation of your problem with Zprocess http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...st&t=44012 zehd, is going to have to help you to uninstall it.

The other thing to try is to change the Recording Directory to the C: drive since the error on \\NHB-MEDIA-01\mvp\ could be share related.

I saw in your config.xml that you are/were using Z-proces to have the avi's transcoded. Did you install that again? You could try to manually transcode the files in the video library.

Edit: Good morning Martin.Smile Please take over from me so I can go to bed.Wink

Hi Martin,
This is a continuation of my previous problem, but expanded. My current setup is a fresh 1.4.7 install, no zprocess unless there was something there be default. I'll try wiping GB off again and trying to reinstall it.
As far as you know, zprocess should or should not be installed by default?

You are still using zprocess and no it is not installed by default, so you didn't clear out the old version (an uninstall does not erase config.xml).

thats what I'm noticing, but it's not the config file. I uninstalled the app, and completely wiped out the dev. folder. I don't know where it's pulling preferences down from but I can't find it.
