I've got a new Hauppauge PVR500 that I'm worried might have some problems. I've tried it in 2 machines and it crashes with gbpvr when watching live tv. However, in a 3rd machine it works ok (but I don't want to use this machine as my pvr).
I've reinstalled bare XP on both machines with nothing but the latest MS patches. I've kept the config simple and only tried using a single tuner. On one machine (Athlon 2800+), it completely locks up XP - only a hard reset will recover. On the other (Celeron 2.5GHz), it locks up gbpvr, but I can close it and reopen.
I only have a couple days before I can no longer return the card, so any ideas on why it crashes would be appreciated! (logs are attached).

Thanks
Matt

That sounds like drivers not playing nicely with that machine. It might be worth trying the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software on the same machine.

Do you have a MPEG2 decoder installed? The logs look like its not finding one. You can get a decent free one from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

Thanks! I guess that explains why they made a big deal out of saying the whitebox version of the PVR500 doesn't have an MPEG2 decoder included!

I did try the WinTV2000 software on the Athlon machine and it displayed about 2 seconds video and then crashed. However, I also never loaded an MPEG2 decoded on this machine, so maybe that was the problem? I'll try moving the card over tonight to see if I can get it working.

Thanks again,
Matt

The WinTV2000 software installs an MPEG2 decoder, so that shouldnt be the problem.

With the wintv2000 software you have to install a mpg-decoder separately aswell.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Not necessarily I think. I have to download and install that separately. Maybe if youn have an install-cd it might work that way. But with the mce-version he wouldn't have that.
