When watching live TV, I press my Guide button and the channels and shows pop up. However, all channels are displayed in the guide data, even though I deselected many channels via the config app. The TV Listings plugin filters the channels that are deseleced.

Looks like they're not disabled for each tuner when I edit each tuner from the Capture Sources tab of the Config app. What's the purpose of the Channels tab? It seems the TV Listings plugin doesn't show the channels in the guide based on what isn't checked on the Channels tab.

The TV Guide shows all channels that are enabled. So this sounds normal to me.

The channel tab is for setting channel numbers and which channels are favourites. This favourites checkbox is just used to determine if channels are skipped when pressing up/down while watching live tv to change channels.

I dont know what the TV Listings plugin does - I've never used it.

Just checked and you're right (of course), the unchecked channels on the Channels tab are skipped when watching Live TV and you press channel +/-.

Can I suggest removing the checkboxes from the Capture Sources tab and make the favorites, both what is displayed in the Guide and what is skipped when watching Live TV and you press channel +/-, be controlled by the Channels tab?

I have 2 tuner cards, so wouldn't I have to edit each Capture Source and uncheck the channels I don't want displayed in the Guide?

No can do. You seem to forget that people often have different channels enabled in different capture sources, so this really needs to be controlled on a 'per capture source' basis.

The "favourites" concept is a really different thing from channels that are enabled.

Fair enough. I just can't imagine why one would want different channels enabled for different capture sources. I'm sure there's a good reason, and that's why you designed it that way.

Its actually very common. Some examples...

- one tuner might be connected to a set top box (digital cable, satellite etc) and receive the complete set of channels, wheras second tuner may only receive a subset.

- one tuner might produce have reception problems or produce a crap picture on some channels, so you'd prefer its not used for those channels

- user may prefer to force a specific capture source to not be used by disabling those channel (ie, forcing it to not tie up the one digital cable box, when the same channels are available via analog tuner).

- user pays for different tiers of subscriptions for extra set top boxes to reduce cost, ie giving premium channels only on one set top box.

There are alot of different models people need to use, particularly outside of the USA where we dont get 80+ easily tuneable channels via analog cable. Cable networks outside of the US would usually encrypt every channel, requiring user to lease set top box for reception - with different costs depending on channel options selected.
