Nero Time Error

I've been having a problem when trying to burn my recorded tv shows to DVD using Nero.

I record a show, and using my postprocessing.bat, I use comskip and comclean to remove the commercials. When I open the file in WMP everything works great. ex)a 60 min show will now be 45 min long with the commercials removed.

However, when I open the file with Nero, it states the file is still 60 min long and when I burn the file to DVD, I can watch the show and the commercials are removed, however, after 45 min I get 15 min of a black nothing. In essence, I still get a show with no commercials, but then I have all this wasted space on my DVD.

I'm still an amateur with Gb-pvr, and I'm hoping it's a simple problem. Is this a nero issue, a time issue, or a comskip/comclean issue...etc...? Any advice is appreciated.

comclean does really evil things to mpg files and shouldnt be used. It just removes parts of the file without fixing the timestamps in the file.

is there a solution to fix the timestamp after comclean does its work? could i run retime after comclean, or is it not meant to work that way?

or is there a better way to remove commercials that comskip detects other than comclean?

Sorry, I cant answer your question. I dont personally remove commercials from my recordings. I just use comskip files to automatically skip ads during playback in GB-PVR.

I know its been discussed several times in the past though, so there should be some other threads with the answers you're looking for.

I think it should work, try it it and you'll know. You could investigate on using videoredo ($$) or cuttermaran (free). Afaik they both can use comskip output to do the cutting, but hey might do a better job than comclean.

mencoder can also cut the commercials out and does a decent job too...
just have to make comskip output .edl files to enable it..
[which can be run on already comskipped files just to output a .edl file without waiting, check the comskip cmd options]

it can also transcode them while its at it..Smile

should be lots of info about it on the forums..
otherwise i think there's a new comclean2 out there somewhere...i think on the comskip website..

after searching more on the forums, i'm using Comcut insteand of Comclean and it seems to have fixed the time problem. plus my postprocessing.bat is easier to understandBig Grin .

Comcut does a retime and creates files that my DVD player has no issues playing.
pBS has a cool tool for burning DVD's from GBPVR called showburner. You might want to check that out too. The chapters are created from the commercial cut times.
