given that comclean can be configured to run on a show while it is recording, i assumed that i could access a recording (.ts) while it is still streaming with other software for processing, i tried to use VLC to transcode (to another file) tonights episode of House, but it seams like the recording stopped as soon as VLC accessed the stream, i looked through the logs and they seem to indicate that the recording was completed as scheduled, i figured as long as VLC doesnt catch up to the live stream, it should be fine to start the transcoding while the show is still recording to save some time,
any ideas?

VLC will transcode in faster than real time, so I'm guessing it'll think it reached the end of the file almost immediately.

I think its a bad idea to do this. Better to wait until the recording is complete. Too much that could go wrong. Also likely to cause a lot of disk fragmentation.

true, VLC CAN transcode faster than realtime, but it certainly doesn't go faster than real-time for 1080i content on my computer, other than reach the end of the file before the file is complete is there anything else to worry about?

I dont know, its not something I've ever done. I'd just wait until the recording is complete.
