How can I adjust brightness and contrast of the tv picture in GB-PVR?

I've looked through config and haven't stumbled across it.

I'm using a PVR-150 under Vista.

Thanks!

Ive always wondered this myself i think i could improve my picture if i had normal tv settings that applied only to the tv tuner image not my entire moniter.

You can adjust the settings in direct.ini or use the Hauppauge tweaktool, I assume it's the same under Vista.

Be careful not to use it for audiosettings. Read the tweaktool website:

One thing that seems to catch a lot of us is when the picture adjustment occurs... on playback (output) or recording (input).

When you tweak the picture using the direct.ini, you will not be able to 'fix' already recorded shows. You are effectively adjusting the picture quality of newly recorded shows... or what is taken in on the input. The settings become part of the recorded file. If you have lowered the saturation of a recorded file, then you will not be able to reclaim it later...

I would suggest taking a recorded MPEG to another computer and seeing if it looks good with a different video card/monitor. If it looks good, then I would not adjust the direct.ini. I would look to adjust the output...

For playback, you would have to look into your own Video card's control panel. Some make it easy, some not...

Some settings for some cards can only modified by hacking the registry. Some cards will allow you to adjust playback picture quality on a program by program basis. Some won't.

Thanks - that helps me understand what's going on. Watching tv live is fine - but my recordings look a little washed out. So I'll play with direct.ini...

I have a similar problem. I am capturing with a PVR-500. If I play a captured show in Windows Media Player 11 it looks fine. If I play the same video at the same time on the same computer, from GBPVR Recordings, the video is much darker. I am using an ASUS NVidia 6200 PCI Express video card. Any clues how I can fix this?

Try switching to the Overlay renderer. It probably looks closer to WMP.

Sub, Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately Overlay didn't work well at all. I got a quarter screen video and full screen video playing at the same time, flickering back and forth between the two.

Resurrecting an older post. I have a similar problem. Playing back MPEG2 files recorded by a PVR250 there is severe white crush on the picture. However when played back by VLC or WMP the picture is fine. I am using the default MPEG2 decoder (I am guessing it's Intervideo since the only DVD player I have installed is WinDVD7).

I have tried all settings of VMR from Overlay to VMR9 (Custom) but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Picture is from a Nvideo N6200 card over DVI to a HDMI input on my LCoS set.

Looks like there is nothing else I can do I guess.
