Hi

I use GBPVR 1.0.16 with a hauppauge Nova-t-500 card using the BDA plugin.

It works brilliantly. Very impressed.

The TV shows I record though are HUGE !
A 1 hour program is around 1.5 Gig and in "Microsoft Recorded TV Show" format ?

I was interested in using the Conversion Processing that is built into GBPVR to convert the files to XVID, but despite stetting all 3 "Auto-Convert" sections to XVID, nothing seems to happen.

Little bit new to all this, so any help would be appreciated.

been a digital signal there are no quality settings as the computer doesnt have to encode anything unlike a analog recording which has to be converted to digital
sometimes they can be even bigger than 1.5 gig

as for conversion have you had a look on the wiki there is a link top and bottom of this page
i dont convert anything i just buy bigger hard drives

1.5gb an hour seems normal-ish for UK DVB-T programmes. "Microsoft Recorded TV Show" format sounds like dvr-ms file format? I use a cyberlink mux (last page of config) to produce mpg files although I suspect their sizes will be near identical.

If I ever want to shrink stuff, I use a commercial divx converter, but like above - bigger drive!

As martain said above, you can use the cyberlink mux to record to .mpg files, thought these will be pretty much the same size (bitrate is set by the broadcaster). This mux is also required when you try to do conversion for .dvr-ms files to anything else, which is why it didnt do anything for you.

Ok - thanks very much for your help on this. I understand things a lot better now.

Might have a play with the cyberlink mux, if only to see if I can get the conversion working.

Thanks again

just in case it is not clear, you do need to download and register the cyberlink mux before selecting it in the config.exe app.

some can be found here
